Form, Function & Feeling: Designing for Stop Motion

In this Talk, local stop motion animation studio, Cafe LaBobo founders Ben Ellebracht and Fu Yang discuss their thought process around materials and how they ride the line between functionality and practicality when interacting with shape, color and light for stop motion animated films. They will use clips and behind-the-scenes work from three critically acclaimed projects from their catalogue of films.

Cafe LaBobo is a Saint Louis-based boutique animation and visual effects studio, focusing on 2D, Stop Motion, 3D visual effects, and Visual Development.
Ben and Fu bring imagination to life through handcrafted visuals and storytelling. The studio has collaborated with Apple TV+, Pixar Co-op, DreamWorks TV, and indie film productions.About Ben

Working for over two decades in everything ranging from comics, film, television, and video games.About Fu
Fu is an award-winning Taiwanese filmmaker.
She brings unique handmade designs and combines stop-motion, traditional animation, and motion graphics in her projects.
She sees every personal project as a chance to shine universal themes beyond the differences between races and cultures.
