Loops: How contemporary creativity is created and subverted
Thursday October 10, 2024 3:00pm - 4:30pm CDT
As designers we are in a constant loop—new tools, cultural cues, and creativity have evolved to change our perception of what it means to be a designer, and confront long held beliefs of what exactly makes design ‘design’.

Join a conversation with Design Director Ian O’Saben on how FCB’s The Design Group has confronted tired process, challenged trend, and created new meaning through stances on emerging tools like artificial intelligence to enter a positive spin in their daily loops.

We will discuss:
  • How everyday life influences design
  • How to find new channels for creative inspiration
  • How we create process that subverts the norms of graphic design practice
  • What thinking tools-first does to your design solutions
  • How contemporary creativity has changed design
  • Discuss internal ethics for AI and how it’s been used to create best in class work

Born and raised in on the East side of the river in Belleville and schooled at the Kansas City Art Institute, Ian O’Saben is a champion of all things midwest and design. After cutting his teeth with STL’s best, he now lives in Chicago as a Design Director at The Design Group with FCB where creates process and vision to impact change not only within his team, but in the field of design as whole. He works across multiple mediums like brand ID, packaging, visual design, animation, clothing, and spacial design to evolve iconic brands like Harley Davidson, Burt’s Bees, Hidden Valley Ranch, and Boeing.
