STL Zine and Poster Show at KNOW/HOW books + print

KNOW/HOW bookshop at The Luminary is excited to present DESIGNING THE UNDERGROUND: DIY PRINT IN ST. LOUIS, a dynamic exhibition celebrating the rich history of DIY print culture in St. Louis. 

Opening on October 11th in our storefront gallery space, the show will feature an extensive collection of zines and posters gathered from concerts, events, and happenings throughout the city, highlighting the evolution of DIY design and printed matter over the years. In collaboration with St. Louis Design Week, join us for a special reception and roundtable discussion on October 9th from 6-7:30pm, where artists and community members will explore the impact of DIY publishing on the local art scene. The exhibition is curated by Kellen Wright, The Luminary's Gallery Manager and a practicing artist, who brings their deep connection to St. Louis's vibrant print culture to this exciting showcase.

In addition to the exhibition, KNOW/HOW books + print will have a selection of available books and printed matter for sale, and coffee available throughout the day.

SIDE QUEST Release Party with Steenz and Cassi Mothwin

Celebrate the anticipated release of Side Quest: A Visual History of Roleplaying Games at Betty's Books!
Cartoonist, Author, and Professor, Steenz, will present a behind the scenes look at the production of Side Quest from inception to release. Award-winning RPG Designer, Cassi Mothwin, will interview Steenz on the process of making the book followed by time for Q&A. The event concludes with a book signing. Speaker/Panelist 1
Steenz is a St. Louis based cartoonist, editor, and professor. They're the cartoonist on the new graphic novel Side Quest: A Visual History of TTRPGs, the syndicated comic strip ‘Heart Of The City’, the co-creator of Dwayne McDuffie Award winning Graphic Novel 'Archival Quality', and is the co-creator of the Standard Comic Script. Steenz currently teaches at Webster University and SVA while editing titles from independent publishers and creators. They’re also Board President of SLICE (The St. Louis Independent Comics Expo). They live with their spouse Keya and two cats (Marko and Ripley).

Cassi Mothwin (she/any) is a multi-award-winning tabletop RPG designer, writer, and illustrator active since late 2021. Her indie games and projects include The Sticker Game, Tangled Blessings, Carved by the Garden, What Crooked Roots, and Clean Spirit. Her work has been featured in Dicebreaker, Gizmodo, Polygon, Ars Technica, Forbes, Rascal, and numerous other indie tabletop RPG blogs, videos, and podcasts. She lives in St. Louis, Missouri with her two cats and spouse.
